Community Guidelines

Two adults, in different countries, writing to each other about ordinary life. That's it. These guidelines exist so both people can write honestly and comfortably.

• Write about your everyday life — food, weather, work, family, small discoveries.
• Ask questions. A letter with questions in it gets a much better reply.
• Respond to what the other person wrote last time.
• Be patient with imperfect English or Japanese.
• Tell us if something makes you uncomfortable.

• Sexual content. No sexual descriptions, requests or images, in either direction.
• Romantic pressure. Affection can grow naturally between people who write for a long time — that's human. But repeated romantic advances after they are unwelcome, or treating this as a dating service, is not allowed.
• Private contact details. No LINE, WhatsApp, Instagram, Telegram, phone numbers, personal email addresses, or home addresses. This protects both sides.
• Money or gifts. Never ask for money, gifts, sponsorship or financial help — and never offer them in exchange for anything.
• Harassment, threats, hate. Including discrimination based on nationality, ethnicity, religion, gender, disability or sexual orientation.
• Sharing someone's private information, or publishing their letters, handwriting or photographs without consent.

Every reply and every letter is reviewed by our operations team before it is passed on. If something breaks these guidelines we may hold it, ask for a rewrite, place the correspondence on hold, issue a warning, or suspend or terminate an account. Serious cases may also affect billing and result in a refund decision.
