Terms of Service

My Japanese Penpal ("the Service") is operated by Junji Fukumoto, MIEUX Shibuya Bldg. 8F, 5-3 Maruyamacho, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo 150-0044, Japan ("we", "us"). By using the Service you agree to these Terms.

The Service is a paid correspondence service. You choose a real, verified adult writer in Japan, and that writer produces a handwritten letter which we mail to you from Japan. You can reply from your account, and their next letter continues the conversation.

What we provide is the correspondence itself. We do not guarantee any particular outcome of that correspondence, and we are not able to promise how any individual writer will respond to you.

You must be 18 years of age or older to use the Service. All writers are verified adults aged 18 or over. We may terminate any account we believe belongs to a minor.

You agree not to send, request or encourage:

• sexual content or sexual requests of any kind;
• continued advances of any kind after the other person has asked you to stop, or after they have made clear they are not interested;
• harassment, threats, hate speech or discriminatory content;
• requests for money, gifts, financial support or sponsorship;
• private contact details — including LINE, WhatsApp, Instagram, Telegram, phone numbers, personal email addresses, or home addresses — from either side;
• anything unlawful in Japan or in your country of residence.

Correspondence is reviewed by our operations team before it is passed on. We may hold, redact or refuse to forward any correspondence that breaches these Terms, and may warn, suspend or terminate accounts.

Your home address is never disclosed to your writer, and your writer's home address is never disclosed to you. All physical mail passes through our operations office. Any paper reply must be sent to our office using your Penpal Code.

My Japanese Penpal does not arrange, supervise, guarantee, or take responsibility for in-person meetings. We do not provide a meet-up feature and do not share contact details. Anything that occurs between adults outside the Service is entirely outside our control and responsibility.

• A membership is billed in advance on a recurring monthly basis and renews automatically until you cancel.
• You can cancel at any time from your account. Cancellation stops future billing; it does not retroactively refund a period already paid for.
• A First Letter purchase is a single one-time payment with no subscription attached.
• Prices are shown at checkout before you pay. We may change prices for future billing periods with notice; your current period is not affected.
• Payments are processed by PayPal. We never store your card details.

Letters are mailed from Japan by international standard mail. Delivery times vary by destination country and standard international mail generally does not include tracking. We report the date a letter was mailed from Japan; we do not and cannot confirm delivery. See our Refund & Delivery Policy.

Writer availability may change. Each writer accepts a limited number of members. If your writer becomes unavailable, we may offer you a transfer to another writer, a pause, a replacement letter, or a refund. We will not move you to a different writer without your agreement.

Letters written for you are for your personal use. Please do not publish a writer's letter, handwriting, photographs or personal details publicly without their consent. You retain ownership of what you write; you grant us permission to translate and forward it to your writer for the purpose of operating the Service.

We may suspend or terminate access, with or without refund depending on circumstances, if these Terms are breached — in particular the conduct rules in section 4.

The Service is provided on a reasonable-efforts basis. To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss. Nothing in these Terms limits rights you have under mandatory consumer protection law in your country of residence.

These Terms are governed by the laws of Japan. Where the mandatory consumer protection law of your country of residence gives you rights that cannot be waived, those rights continue to apply.
