Letters from Japan, written by hand, mailed to your door

Not a subscription box. Not a newsletter. An envelope with a Japanese stamp on it, containing two to three handwritten pages from one person who is writing to you — and who will keep writing every month.

What's inside a letter

Everyday life, mostly. What they cooked on a rainy Tuesday, the café that closed, the neighbour's cat, the smell of the first cold morning, a festival in their town. Seasonal Japan as one person actually experiences it, rather than as a travel guide describes it.

Written for you specifically

Your name is on the page. Your questions get answered. Mass-copied form letters are not permitted — every letter responds to what you wrote the month before, which is why we ask you to reply.

How it reaches you

Letters are mailed from Japan by international standard mail, with postage included in the price. Delivery usually takes one to three weeks depending on your country. Standard mail is not tracked, so we tell you the day your letter left Japan and never claim a delivery we can't verify.

Keeping it slow on purpose

A month between letters sounds slow until you have done it for a while. It gives both people something to save up and something to look forward to — which is exactly what instant messaging took away.
