Paper and handwriting
Two to three A5 pages in your penpal's own hand. Japanese stationery has a long, careful tradition, and penpals often choose their own paper — sometimes with small drawings in the margins.
The rhythm of it
One letter a month, mailed from Japan as soon as it's finished and checked. You read it, sit with it, and reply from your account when you're ready. Then it starts again.
Replying on paper, if you prefer
You can write back online, or send a paper letter to our operations office in Tokyo with your Penpal Code on it and we'll pass it to your penpal. You never write to your penpal's home address, and they never learn yours.
What it isn't
It isn't a gift box, a snack subscription, or a dating site. It's correspondence between two adults, and that's the whole product.
